Distinguished Lecture Series by Professor Richard Kenyon from Yale University : Pseudo-Anosov mappings and toral automorphisms
The lecture will take place at the Nanotechnology Building 206, Auditorium C-50
Abstract: To an irreducible automorphism phi of the 3-torus we construct a pseudo-Anosov mapping of an associated surface S, semiconjugate and almost isomorphic to phi. A similar construction holds for the 4-torus on condition that phi has exactly two expanding eigenvalues, and their product is positive. The construction also holds for the n-torus, if we replace phi with a sufficiently high power.
